What is Life Assurance?
Life Assurance is designed to pay out a lump sum when the person covered dies or is diagnosed with a terminal illness – where life expectancy is less than 12 months, during the term of the policy. Life Assurance can be used to help pay off a mortgage, provide a legacy or financial protection for a family member or friend.
What can Life Assurance cover?
Life assurance products include mortgage protection, business protection, key man insurance and estate planning.
Is Life Assurance the same as Life Insurance?
No, life assurance typically covers you for your entire life, whereas life insurance typically covers you for a specific term.
What is Critical Illness/Injury coverage?
Critical Illness or Injury Cover can be taken as a standalone policy or joint with Life Assurance. The lump-sum payment will be made once you have been diagnosed with a critical illness (listed within your policy wording) and survive for at least 10 days, or when the condition meets a specific severity point. This cover can be used to assist with a loss of income due to a critical illness by offering financial support through recovery.
What can Critical Illness/Injury cover?
It can help you to pay for things such as home alterations necessary to support you following a diagnosis or to cover debts such as a mortgage.
Can premiums be waived?
Premiums will be waived if the person covered is incapacitated for longer than 26 weeks. Waiver of Premium will end when the person covered reaches their 70th birthday. Waiver of Premium may not be available to everyone, or we may restrict cover. If this happens, the insurer will explain their decision.
Can my coverage be customised?
Yes, our plans can be tailored to fit your unique needs, ensuring you have the right level of protection.
Can children be covered?
Childrenโs cover can be taken as an add-on to your policy and could pay up to ยฃ50,000, per child per policy. It also includes pregnancy cover and death of a child.
What types of Life Assurance and/or Critical Illness cover are available?
‘Level’ covers you for a fixed sum assured. ‘Decreasing’ means the sum assured decreases each month to zero at the end of your policy. This works in the same way as the outstanding amount on a repayment mortgage. You can select an interest rate of either 5%, 6%, 7%, 8%, 10%, 11%, 13% or 15%. Premiums will be guaranteed and will not change unless you choose increasing cover. Finally, ‘Increasing’ means the sum assured increases each year by a chosen percentage, or RPI.
What is Total Permanent Disability cover?
Total Permanent Disability pays out if you become disabled and are no longer able to do certain things. There are different definitions depending on your health and occupation. Weโll tell you which definition applies to you when you take out your plan.
What are the definitions for Total Permanent Disability?
‘Own occupation’ means that youโre under 65 and unable to do your own occupation ever again. ‘Working tasks’ means that youโre under 65 and unable to do three specified working tasks ever again. ‘Living tasks’ means that youโre 65 or over and unable to do three specified living tasks ever again.
What happens if I claim Total Permanent Disability?
If you receive a claim for total permanent disability, you wonโt be able to make a claim for any other critical illness and your cover will stop.
